(Former longtime resident of St. Catharines)  Peacefully at Hillsdale Estates, Oshawa on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 in his 91st year.  He will be sadly missed by his wife Adeline, daughter Lynda and Peter Dekker; sisters Olga Siery and her husband Julius and Zenobia Shedd.  Predeceased by his brother Wesley and sister Helen.

HOLLAND, Steven -

(Member of the Rotary Club of Whitby Sunshine, Previous Owner of Advantage Air-tech, and Current Owner of Beacon Mechanical)  Passed away peacefully on April 30, 2008 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in his 49th year.  Beloved husband of Vicki (Bellissimo).  Loving father of Carl and Luc. Cherished son of William and the late Joyce Holland.  Steve will be sadly missed by his sister Debbie (Reid Madill), his nieces Bonnie Sweetman, Shannon (Stefan Mailey), Candice, nephew Kevin Edwards (Lisa Caniglia) and great-nieces and nephew.  Fondly remembered by his in-laws, Sam and Nicky Bellissimo, Ralph and Laurel Bellissimo, and nephew Chris. 

Visitation will be held at MOUNT LAWN RECEPTION CENTRE, 21 Garrard Rd., Whitby 905-443-3376, on Friday, May 2, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.  Funeral service will take place in the Mount Lawn Chapel on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.  Cremation.  Donations to the Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise would be greatly appreciated by the family.



HORBAN, Elsie – 

At Community Nursing Home, Pickering on Wednesday April 30, 2008 at the age of 94.  Beloved wife of the late William. Loving mother of Margaret Azizieh and her husband Ahmed, Irene Katchaluba, Reverend Don Horband and his wife Darlene, and Diane Reckzin (pre-deceased).  Lovingly remembered by 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

JACK, Rowen -

Passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 at the age of 5 years, at the Hospital For Sick Children.  Beloved son of Lisa Nason and Augustine Jack.  Rowen will be sadly missed by his older brother Hunter Nason.  Never to be forgotten by his grandparents, aunts and uncles.  Special thank you to the nursing staff at Bloorview Kids Rehab.

PEACOCK, Edwin Pavey -

Born March 29, 1926, Ed was a respected Clinical Psychologist. Ed passed away courageously at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the age of 82 years.  Edwin, beloved husband of Bettie (nee: N. Elizabeth Rutherford).  Dearly loved father of Joanne Elizabeth. Caring brother of Betty Barnes of Burlington.  Ed is predeceased by his parents Marjorie and Lucas Peacock and stepmother Jean.  Ed will be sadly missed by his extended family and friends.

SCHURKO, Andrea Edna (nee Charette) – 

Peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday April 30, 2008 at the age of 35.  Beloved wife of Darren Schurko.  Loving mother of Darren Jr. and Samantha. Loved daughter of Willie Simons, and Andre Charette (Cecile).  Dear sister of Bill and Jim.  Daughter-in-law of Evelyn Skelton (Ron) and Orval Schurko (Eva).  Andrea was greatly loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed by her family and friends, especially her best friend Hillary Madeiros.

TIBANDO, George Anthony -

Age 47 years.  Suddenly in Toronto on Wednesday April 30th, 2008.  Father of Josh and Samantha.  Dear brother of Fran, Marie (Doug), John (Pat), Pat (Don), Al (Debbie), Andrew (Yvonne) and Steven (Jackie) and the late Butch.  Son of the late Andy & Arabelle Tibando.  He will be sadly missed by his aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at THE NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. N. Bowmanville on Monday May 5th, 2008 from 1 – 2 pm.  Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at 2 pm.  Cremation



TURANSKY, William J. (Bill)" -

WWII Veteran  Born August 28, 1920, died peacefully at Oshawa General Hospital on April 30th, 2008 after a long and productive life.  Bill is survived by Dorothy nee Neville, also a Veteran, wife of 63 years, sister Helen, brothers Ralph and Bernie, daughter Susan (Diane), Kathryn, Laurel, Corinne and Jacky, grandchildren Jason, Sara, Marlow, Megan, Amy, Devon, Raven, Micah, Ben, Brazil and great grandchildren Kelsey, Brandon and Payden.  He went to England during WWII with 409 “Nighthawk” Squadron as an aircraft mechanic where he met and married Dorothy, of the W.A.A.F.  Bill owned and operated general stores in Raglan and Kendal for more than 20 years and practiced real estate for 30 years.  He was held in high esteem by many of those he worked with for his community minded outlook and his honesty.  He loved his family, his garden and his pets and was rewarded with being loved back and a productive garden.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Following his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of his life will be held.  Memorial Donations may be made to The Bowmanville Legion Branch, Poppy Fund.  Arrangements entrusted to THE NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. N. Bowmanville.

DALTON, Dorothy Jean -

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Jean Dalton on Tuesday April 29th, 2008, at Extendicare Oshawa.  Dot, the beloved wife of the late Bruce Dalton.  Adored and much loved mother of Douglas Dalton and his wife Catharine of Whitby.  She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Courtney and Mitchell. Predeceased by sisters Mary and Laura and brothers Jim and Don. 

Family will receive friends at the McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 152 King St. E. Oshawa, 905-433-5558 from 10am until time of memorial service at 11am on Saturday May 3rd, 2008.  A reception will be held immediately following the service.  A private family interment will follow at a later date.  In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate memorial donations to the Kidney Foundation.



KIFT, Paul Joseph Horace – 

Went peacefully with his family by his side, in body and in spirit, after a brief illness at Toronto Western Hospital on Tuesday April 29, 2008, in his 79th year.  Predeceased by his wife Joan (nee Hewson) in 1983.  Cherished father of  John (Linda), David (Marion), Peter (Lynn) and Carolyne (John).  Paul was a loving grandfather to Tiffany Brooke, Tiffany Lynn, Shannon, Sarah, Derek, Matthew, Cody, Andrew, Lindsay and Shannon and  great- grandfather to Reece.  He is survived by his sister Betty Harrison and predeceased by his brother Harry Kift. 

Paul was born in Oshawa.  He attended O’Neill CVI  after which he surveyed much of northern Ontario for the Canadian National Railroad.  After 17 years of surveying Paul decided to accept a position with the City of Oshawa.  When the Region of Durham was founded in 1974 Paul became an employee there until his retirement in 1993.  Paul’s greatest passions were hunting and fishing.  He greatly enjoyed spending time year round at the family cottage in Haliburton.  Paul was a wonderful story teller and always had a great tale to tell about his childhood and hunting/fishing expeditions.  We will all greatly miss him.

McENANEY, Marie Henrietta "Louise" -

Peacefully, after a courageous battle with MSA on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the Wynfield LTC in Oshawa. Louise (nee Maurais), beloved wife of the late Ross McEnaney.   Loving daughter of the late Yvonne (nee Rheaume) and Amedee Maurais.  Loving mother of Susan McEnaney of Kitchener, Judy and her husband Bill Monahan of Markham and Teresa and her husband Terry Surette of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.  Cherished grandmother of Jennifer, Sarah, Brandon and Daniel. Great nana to her princess Darcy.  Predeceased by her brother Henri Maurais and her sister Lilianne Bourbonnais.  Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends especially Stephanie Lehman, Len and Lynda McEnaney, Rozanne and Ed Knight, Jackie Kennedy and the Partington Family.

MORRISON, Paul John -

Passed away at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa on Tuesday April 29th, 2008 in his 64th year.  Dearly loved husband of Georgina. Much loved Pop of Paul and his wife Jennifer of Brooklin, Lesli and her husband Ranique Bailey of Toronto, and Patrick and his wife Christina of Brooklin.  Poppa of Robert, Amanda, Baby to be, Jacob and Caitlyn.

PORTER, Burton Joseph -

June 12, 1927 – April 29, 2008 Peacefully at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa after a long brave battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 29th, 2008 in his 81st year.  Beloved husband of Carol Porter (nee Lyte) for 52 years.  Loving father of Grant, Gord (Dana) and Ken.  Cherished Grandfather of Darren and Danielle.  Dear brother of Bill and Mabel Porter.  Predeceased by brothers Jim, Lloyd and Bob Porter and daughter Donna Lynn Porter. Burton was a retiree of Chrysler Canada-Ajax, former member Whitby Curling Club, member Whitby Seniors Centre.

Entered into rest at Lakeridge Heath Oshawa on Tuesday April 29, 2008 at the age of 81.  Minnie, beloved wife of the late Charlie.  Dear mother of Melvin and his wife Barb, Roy and his wife Barb, Wilbert and his wife Grace, Verna and her husband Barclay McDonald, John and his wife Elizabeth, and the late Vera.  Fondly remembered by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

HEMMINGHAUS, Agnes (nee Galen) – 

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Monday April 28th, 2008 at age 83.  Beloved wife of the late Kurt Hemminghaus for 50 years.  Daughter of the late Franz and Gertrud Galen.  Dear mother of Randy and his wife Katy of New Jersey, Gary and his wife Joey of Oshawa and Terry and his wife Melissa of Woodbridge. She will be truly missed by her grandchildren Sarah, Brandon, Curtis and Carly.  Agnes was predeceased by her 2 sisters Gertrude and Irmgard as well as her brothers Walter and Guenther.  She will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and extended family in Germany and California.

PARKES, Leslie Alexander – 

A gentle, creative spirit was suddenly quelled when our dear father was taken from us on Monday, April 28, 2008.  Predeceased by his life sweetheart, Zona, his passing leaves a great void in the lives of those he loved; his children and their spouses, Val (Steve) Bakunowicz, Clive (Jun) Parkes, and Jill (Tom) Bickle; his grandchildren Erin, Sara, Erica, Kyle, Lily, and Fei; his sister Dorothy (Don) Blair, his brother Don (Migz) Parkes, and his favourite aunt, Grace Thomas.  He will be fondly missed by his dear relatives and treasured friends, with special mention of his new-found family at Kingsway Arms Retirement Residence.  A celebration of Les’ life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2008, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., with spoken remembrances at 2:00 p.m., in the Liberty Room, Kingsway Arms Residence 65 Clarington Blvd., Bowmanville (behind the Canadian Tire).

ROBERTS, Kevin – 

Passed away suddenly at home on Monday April 28th, 2008 in his 44th year.  Kevin leaves behind his beloved wife Gail and his three children Kyle, Nicholas and Jordan.  Dear son of Kenneth and his wife Chris and his late mother Iris. Kevin will be truly missed by his seven brothers and their families.

WOLSTENHOLME, La-Vivian - 

September 25, 1932 - April 28, 2008   Today we said goodbye for the last time giving you a kiss on your cheek.  Mom was born in Admaston, Ontario, the eldest child of Lawrence and Marie (Jago) Gauthier.  Mom was a hard working woman with a love for life and family.  Beloved wife of Harry, mom and dad celebrated 58 years of happy married life together.  Mom and Dad were predeceased by their eldest daughter, Catherine Ann (Dyer) in 2005.  Mom and Dad enjoyed living close to their family: their daughters Connie (Ivan) MacKeil, Jean (Greg) Pyatt and their son Harry James (Sue) Wolstenholme.  Mom will be deeply missed by her sister Marie Holden (Gary) of Stoney Creek, predeceased by her sister Lorna Wilsdon (Ed) of St. Thomas, stepsisters Anita Doyle (Walter) of Richmond Hill, Natalie Moran (Jim) of Mississauga, stepbrother Leonard Auton (Marie) of Oakville, sister-in-law to James Wolstenholme (Jean) of Mississauga, Earl Wolstenholme of Kincardine, Freda Vickers of Sydney Mines, NS, Hilda Yovanovich of Wasaga Beach, cousin to Marilyn Attard (Peter) and Aunt Esther Jago of Wales.  Mom leaves behind several grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Mom moved to Toronto in 1948 to work at A.C. Neilson and later at Bell Canada where she stayed for over 22 years.  She enjoyed playing on the women's baseball teams and bowling.  Mom was a Legion member for 30 years, Renfrew Branch.  Mom and Dad enjoyed many, many summers in Cape Breton, NS together.  She was always there to help her family when needed. 

Friends will be received at THE NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. N., Bowmanville, on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 11 a.m.  Interment Bowmanville Cemetery.  Memorial donations to the Durham Regional Cancer Centre will be gratefully acknowledged.  Thank you to Dr. Vincent Ho and the nurses of the 2nd floor Bowmanville Hospital and the wonderful compassionate Home Care nurses who cared for Mom. 

Mom, you left us too early, 
but your life's memories will linger with us forever.

(Veteran of W.W. II; retired General Motors employee after 39 years service; member of Lebanon Lodge A.F. & A.M. #139)  At Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Sunday, April 27th, 2008.  Don, in his 86th year.  Beloved husband of Barbara.  Loving father of John Fox and partner Ann Sinclair of Oshawa, Steve Fox and wife Betty of Minden.  Dear grandfather of Andrew, Emily, Sarah and Jessica Fox.  Brother of the late Ivah Fox, Sarah Brown and Jessica Bennet.  Cousin of David Brown, Tom Bennet and Robert Bennet.

September 30, 1930 - April 27, 2008 of Colborne Street W., Whitby, Ontario.  Predeceased by his first wife Irene.  Survived by his loving and caring wife for the past 40 years Bernice, son Robert (Joanne), daughter April, daughter-in-law Diane, son-in-law Jim, five grandchildren and great grandchild soon to be born.

Born May 5, 1943 in Johnstown, PA, USA passed away peacefully April 26, 2008 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, after a long courageous and dignified battle against lung cancer.  Loving and devoted father of Allison Kindya, Oshawa.  Beloved son of Mary Kindya (nee Pacolt), Pittsburgh, PA and the late John Kindya.  Dearly loved brother of Lucille Tomko (nee Kindya) and her spouse Andrew Tomko, Pittsburgh, PA.  Loving uncle of Kelly Ann Tomko, Scranton, PA.  Survived by aunt Olga Simmers (nee Pacolt), Carson City, NV, and aunt Helen Maurer (nee Pacolt),Clarks Green, PA as well as many cousins in the USA.

Predeceased by several aunts, uncles and cousins all in the USA. BLOOM, Lillian Evelyn -

On April 22, 2008, at the age of 98.  Miss Bloom was born in Whitney, Ontario on November 9, 1909, the only child of Emily Kosmack and William Bloom.  The family moved to Wainwright, Alberta in 1912, when the town was in its beginnings.  Miss Bloom was a graduate of Wainwright High School, the University of Alberta in arts and education, and the Toronto Conservatory of Music in piano forte.  She began her career as a high school teacher in Canmore, Alberta, moving later to Athabasca, Alberta, and finally to her hometown where she taught for ten years.  There she was active in the musical life of the United Church as organist and choir leader. In 1955, with her father, she moved to Newmarket, Ontario.  In 1956 they came to Whitby, where Miss Bloom taught at Henry Street High School until her retirement in 1975.  Miss Bloom spoke of teaching as “my whole life”.  Retirement was not easy.  However she travelled widely, and of recent years enjoyed walking, gardening, reading, channel 17, and concert series in Toronto.  According to her wishes, there will be no funeral.  Her ashes will be interred in the family plot at Grace Lutheran Cemetery at Eganville, Ontario.

Peacefully, on Monday, April 21, 2008, at the Lakeridge Health Centre, in Port Perry, 2 weeks after his 80th birthday.  Bill Marconi, beloved husband and soul mate of Ruth (nee McDonald) of Port Perry.  Loving brother of Mildred and her husband Al Rowcliffe.  Dear uncle of Michael Foster and his wife Belle, Michael McDonald, Jim McDonald, David McDonald, Jane Lawry, Eileen Berthelette, Ann Latour, Lorne Fitzpatrick, David Fitzpatrick, and many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. 

Born in Toronto, Bill spent 35 years with the Provincial Government, before retiring to beautiful Blackstock in 1983. Bill enjoyed many wonderful years of gardening and travel.  While a member of the Toronto Movie Club Bill won many awards for his travel and other short movies.

Peacefully on Monday April 21, 2008 at Hillsdale Estates & Terraces at the age of 83. Predeceased by her husband Enrico (October 1992).  Born on February 27th, 1925 in Longobardi, Italy, daughter of the late Giovanni & the late Antonia Osso.  Beloved, devoted and proud mother of two sons: John Osso (and his wife Theresa) and Marino Osso (and his wife Anita).  She came to Canada over 35 years ago to be with her sons and their families.  A devout  Catholic, she constantly prayed and was concerned for the health and well being of everyone but herself.  A courageous woman, full of life and endless energy, she will forever be in our hearts.  Cherished grandmother of seven: Angela (and husband John Givelas); Enrico (and wife Tonia Deligio); Luigi, Isa (and husband Emilio Cariati); Marino Jr., Carlo (Lisa Bianco) and Marco. Great grandmother of six: Christopher, Michael, John, Julia, Victoria and Nicholas.  Will be sadly missed by her sisters: Maria (and her husband Eugenio Runco) of Calabria, Italy, and Rosa (and her late husband Giovanni Porco ) of Argentina.  Also predeceased by her loving brother Carlo Osso of Argentina.

Kaz came to Canada in 1959, and he worked at Personal Cheque Printers for 35 years, until he retired.  Kaz was an avid builder, building 2 cottages and a home on his weekends and holidays.  He loved fishing and the outdoors.  Kaz always had a smile on his face, and his great sense of humour will be missed by his family and friends.
